"THE WOMEN AND WAR PROJECT"

Presented by Ryerson University, University of Athens, Hydrama
and the Social Sciences and Humanity Research Council of Canada

The Women & War Project investigates the experience of women in war, past and present, using Greek drama as a means of inciting international discourse on post traumatic stress syndrome and healing.

PERFORMANCES
Three new theatre productions will be premiered at the Hydrama Theatre before embarking on a tour of Athens, Croatia and Canada. These new versions of the ancient Greek plays and myths are written by award-winning female playwrights and directed by Peggy Shannon.

Judith Thompson's "The Sirens"
A dialogue between a young Cassandra and a young Helen.

Velina Hasu Houston's "The Intuition of Iphigenia"
A dance/theatre adaptation of Iphigenia at Aulis, looks at the role of sacrifice-for-country.

Timberlake Wertenbaker's "The Suicide of Colonel A. Ajax"
examines the issue of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder resulting from war.
