HYDRAMA
THEATRE & ARTS CENTRE

on the island of Hydra in Greece

ABOUT HYDRAMA

Hydrama Theatre & Arts Centre was founded in 1999 by a group of theatre professionals to:

  •   promote the study and practice of ancient Greek theatre internationally

  •   encourage drama and dance activities locally

through  the provision of performances, workshops, seminars and courses.

Hydrama liaises with leading drama schools, theatre companies, universities and schools internationally as well as with the island community.

Recent projects include collaboration with : East 15 Acting School, Windsor Boys’ School, Sacramento Theatre, New York Jersey Arts, University of California, TESOL, Bridges for Europe, The Municipality of Hydra, The Athens Centre and the University of Athens.

Activities vary from  one-day seminars to four week workshops. Courses are individually designed and organised to meet participants’ requirements and aim to combine theory with practice -  as well as with leisure and cultural activities.

Workshops/Seminars offered include:

the origins and development of ancient Greek drama,
voice, movement, dance, acting, masks, chorus, directing, stage design, language & culture

Courses often build toward a small production to be performed in our theatre. Further tours of the performance in Athens and Delphi and Spetses can be arranged.

We hold  open air screenings of adaptations of ancient Greek dramas from our comprehensive film library as well as arrange tours to Epidaurus, Athens and Delphi to attend the theatre festivals.

Hydrama is a place where students, classical scholars, actors and other theatre professionals can study and experience Greek drama and culture in a beautiful  setting which replicates theatre’s origins.
